Touring Tahiti by Tandem – An Exotic Cycling Adventure Terry customer, Cindy Wienkers, shared highlights of a spectacular tour she and her husband, Kevin, took in early 2018, riding their tandem through the Polynesian islands. Naturally, we wanted to know more, and Cindy came through for us! Here is her account of an enviable trip […]
We can’t help but be biased towards completely human powered bicycles at Terry, but we look on the growth of ebikes as a great thing – it brings the benefits of cycling and bicycles into new realms, and to new populations, meaning more healthful, less polluting transportation in more places. And, this > Sagan vs. […]
Add Parkinson’s Disease to the List of Ailments Warded Off by Cycling As though we didn’t already have more great reasons to keep on cycling than we know what to do with! Research published on Jama Network shows that physical activity, such as cycling, decreases the risk of developing Parkinson’s Disease. Even moderate exercise helps, […]
Dave Howard, Terry Sales Manager, spotted a Terry Raven saddle in use recently at the Kingdom Trails, a favorite haunt among Northern Vermont mountain bikers. Since it’s a newly introduced model, Dave was interested to find out what the owner’s impressions were. Turned out Mat is an interesting guy with some serious cycling cred, and […]
If you ride in urban areas you already know about the number one threat to cyclists on city streets – dooring: the all too common collision when a driver opens their door without looking, into the path of a cyclist. The Dutch Reach is a simple solution that has proven very effective in places where it is used. As cyclists we can start using the Dutch Reach immediately, and teach it to all the drivers we know.
Here at Terry headquarters in Vermont we are bracing for the cold, cold weather to come, knowing that in a few short weeks only the very hardiest among us will still be cycling outdoors. That’s where indoor cycling comes in – perfect for staying in shape during the off-season, enjoying the physical and mental benefits of cycling without having to deal with winter roads and freezing temps.
Naturally, we have plenty of Terry pieces among our favorite indoor cycling clothes. If you are looking to add spinning or indoor cycling to your own workout program, here are some great tips and recommendations to help you get started.
Not many extreme performance records are held by women, but as of Sept 16, 2018, the unofficial title of world’s fastest cyclist belongs to a woman – 45 year old mom of three, Denise Mueller-Koronek. She went for a bike ride in Utah, and topped out around the take-off speed of a Boeing 747 – setting the Paced Bicycle Land Speed Record at 183.9 mph.
It was no ordinary ride, as you might imagine, and Mueller-Koronek joined a very exclusive club with this feat. Since “Mile-a-Minute Murphy” set the bar at 60 mph in 1899, riding behind a locomotive, only 11 people have set new marks for the record. That hints at the difficulties involved: not only the physical effort required, but the organization and infrastructure needed to prepare and stage an attempt.
Bicycling Magazine ran a round up of the best in shorts for every type of rider, and featured – ahem – us! For “The Best Cycling Shorts for Every Type of Rider” the Editors say they “tested everything from thermal bibs to ultra-thin summer kit to find your next favorite pair of cycling shorts”. We’re delighted that our Bella Short made their list of the best choices in women’s bike shorts.
It’s amazing to see how many variations are possible on the basic form of the bicycle. The Velocipedia project sets the bar for inventive interpretation of the humble bike impossibly high, with the emphasis on “impossibly”. It’s an amusing idea, a very impressive labor of love, and the results are delightful…
Terry Bike Gear can be surprisingly suited to life beyond cycling – Many of us enjoy exercise beyond the bike, and whether we’re going from yoga to the gym, running races or running errands, our Terry bike gear goes with us. It turns out that clothing designed to be comfortable, functional and flattering for cycling can be all those things for other activities too. Versatility is built in. It makes sense – fabric that feels good, wicks well, and keeps the sun off when you’re on a bike, performs just the same anywhere else.
