Many associate skorts with tennis, however, this portmanteau’s path to becoming a women’s activewear staple really begins with cycling. Skorts, or “trouser skirts” as they were known in 1890s fad fashion, emerged as bicycles rose in prominence as a form of transportation and offered women the opportunity to travel independently. One caveat to their newfound freedom on two-wheels was the exaggerated and restrictive fashion of the Victorian Age—defined by heavy petticoats, corsets, and full skirts—that drastically inhibited their mobility. The first skorts, wide-legged pants masked by a button-up skirt panel, were born as a demand for practicality and became a statement of independence in Victorian society.
While we’ve come a long way from trouser skirts, we still demand practicality from our cycling attire and at Terry, we believe that femininity, fun, and function can all ride in tandem. As a pioneer in the modern women’s cycling skort movement, we’re delighted to offer more options in this category than ever with a range of designs, lengths, materials and colorways that offer women the freedom to move—in and out of the saddle—without compromising on style. Read on for a guide to the latest Bike Skorts at Terry. We hope you’ll join us on the outskirts.
ALL IN WONDERS WITH BUILT-IN PADDED LINERS.
Indie Skort
We designed this fierce performance skort for independent spirits who find themselves on all kinds of bikes and all kinds of adventures. It’s made of a lovely combination of performance fabrics and is constructed with a higher rise, supportive waist, and a lightweight and ventilating perforated skirt that’s attached at the low waist to minimize bulk while adding feminine energy. Under the skirt, you’ll find an aatached, moderately compressive 5.5 inch liner with a hidden envelope pocket to secure your smartphone and our Fleet Air Lite chamois that provides superior breathability in high heat conditions and enough padding to handle rides of any duration.
Rebel Skort
Our best-selling Rebel Skort gives you a leg up on performance features compared to the Indie Skort. This rule breaker is made in the USA of premium, high compression fabric and features a higher rise, supportive waist and our Italian Flex Air chamois, designed for all-day adventures and multi-day excursions. Like the Indie, its ventilating chevron perforated skirt is attached at the low waist and its silhouette is contoured in the front and a bit more free flowing in the rear to avoid interference when climbing in and out of the saddle. The Rebel’s integrated liner short has a longer, 8 inch inseam and a high compression fit to support your muscles and fend off fatigue and also includes a hidden patch pocket with a flap on the right leg to secure your cell phone or other small ride essentials.
Fixie Skort
Our Fixie Skort is an ideal choice for commuters, recreational riders, and bike travelers who make frequent stops to enjoy the sights and delights of their cycling trip. It’s made of a beautifully heather, Italian fabric that moves with you, feels amazing against the skin, doesn’t wrinkle, and therefore, travels very well. Its wide, elastic-free waistband provides a comfortable fit and its open mesh, dual side pockets are super handy and able to accommodate your phone or anything else you want at the ready. Its attached liner short includes our seamless and minimally-padded Slite Chamois that lets you walk around comfortably off the bike without anything bulky inhibiting your stride.
Trixie Skort
A hit since its introduction, the Trixie Skort is full of tricks and hidden talents. Beyond its beautifully 360-degree printed skirt lies an undercarriage built for distance. The attached liner has a moderately compressive fit and a 6 inch inseam with hidden elastic leg bands to prevent the shorts from riding up while our Fleet Air Chamois will provide you with the padding needed for many happy hours in the saddle. The Trixie’s skirt has an extra-wide waistband with just a thin elastic for additional support and features the same handy open pockets as the Fixie.
Vista Skort
Hot days exploring gravel roads and the pursuit of non-stop adventure inspired us to create the Vista Skort. Not only is it made of durable and backroad-ready, recycled, stretch woven nylon, it also features a 4-way stretch waistband for added comfort and an accommodating fit. A peak performer, its integrated liner short is equipped with our Fleet Air Lite chamois and is attached to the overskort so the only shifting you’ll need to consider is your next gear. The outer skirt has a mobility-friendly design that separates at the sides for easy pedaling and has an attractive, printed wrap-around yoke, because while you might be off the beaten path, personal style still matters.
Macy Skort
The Macy Skort from Krimson Klover is our guest star skort this season. It’s responsibly made with light and stretchy recycled polyester for mobility and it balances athletic and everyday comfort with its stylish skirt and attached mesh inner shorts. The flattering front pleats allow for a full range of motion while the adjustable waist lets you find your perfect fit. Unpadded for ultimate useability, it’s a fun option that keeps comfort levels high and style at a maximum whether you’re pedaling, paddling or practicing your serve.
2-Piece Skirt + Unattached Liners For Ultimate Versatility
Metro Skort
One of our first forays into cycling skorts, the Metro Skort, still reigns supreme. It’s a versatile two-piece, skirt and padded liner ensemble that allows you to ride anywhere and everywhere, whether commuting to work, hitting the farmer’s market or on a vineyard tour (believe us—the Metro has been there). Its outer skirt is made from a recycled stretch woven fabric that’s lightweight, water-resistant and quiet in motion and features four pockets: 2 front hand pockets, 1 zippered lower front pocket and 1 bellowed cargo pocket with magnetic closure that easily fits a smartphone. For added mobility, it has a two-way vertical zipper at the front and hem slit at the rear. The unattached Universal Liner is padded for comfort and made from a performance fabric that feels great next to skin and provides the coverage needed for full confidence in the saddle. When you shift out of bike mode, the liner can be removed giving you a great skirt for work, travel and play.
Rover Skort
The goal with the Rover Skort was to provide adventurous women with another riding option that works equally well at home as it does on a spectacular bike trip and adds print to the equation for FUN. Like the Metro Skort, it was designed to be a versatile, 2-piece skirt/padded liner combination that can be worn on or off the bike. This iteration has pull-on styling for quick change artistry and an easy fitting elastic waistband for all-day comfort. The faux wrap outer skirt provides full freedom of movement and has 2 front drop-in pocket and a hidden zippered pocket. To give it unlimited potential, we’ve paired the Rover Skort with our Universal Liner.
Cycling Skirts
Our assortment of cycling skirts instantly convert any pair of bike shorts or liners into a skort and are the perfect quick cover companions to ensure you’re welcome at any stop on your exotic bike travels. They’re all made from performance fabrics, so in addition to cycling, they excel on the pickleball court, waterfront and hiking trails.
