SOLMATES?

February 11, 2022 By Paula Dyba 35 Comments

The true measure of a bike couple is whether/when they take the biggest leap and commitment of all: dressing alike.

It’s been the subject of much discussion here at Terry and we are on the brink of making it official with our first-ever Solmates collection. We’ve received a lot of requests for Soleil Tops for men and have resisted going there because, hey, guys have lots of choices when it comes to cycling wear and our job is putting female cyclists first.

However, the tandem world is calling, and we now have some awesome dudes working for us and appreciate that they need Terry, too.

Now, the fun part…the prints. How matchy is too matchy? How floral is too floral? How bright is hideously bright?

Here’s your chance to do your part for the planet and either propel us forward or dispel the notion…

Tarzan & Jane

Dream Team

Flower Power Couple

Desi & Lucy

Blue By You

We’d love any and all feedback. Share your comments below…

Not sure how many guys will wear most of the tops above. I know my son and husband who bike would probably only consider Dream Team. the others are too feminine for them

Finally! I’ve got 4 of these tops (& 1 capris) and rave how great they are on hot days to my husband. We found something light weight for him but nothing compared to the material of these tops. You can even wear them as normal tops sine the back pockets don’t scream *bike* top.

Love them all and my husband gave a thumbs up! We both need lightweight sun protection where we live in addition to being seniors. I have purchased many soleil
    shirts already. Great idea!

Dream Team and the Desi & Lucy look like reasonable options. The others are too flowery for guys generally. My husband and my two grown sons all cycle and I also cycle with a group of guys. I have never seen one of them in anything flowery.
I ride only in your Soleil tops because I have to avoid the sun like the plague. If I were looking only at the tops you have here on the women’s side, I wouldn’t be attracted to any of them. Of the ones I have purchased from you, I have the one that is like Capri, Italy, the one like the rosette window of Notre Dame Cathedral, and a pink and yellow flower one that is bright enough to be seen but not garish.
How about a travel inspired tandem set?

    Alleluia!!!
My husband has been asking for a Terry sunshirt for YEARS!!!
He picked the dream team design. He says it must be loose fitting for a man! As a women I love the men’s designs for me. Enough of all the flowers! I own 5 long sleeve soleil shirts and none of them have flowers – I don’t/won’t wear flowers!!!
THANKS FOR ASKING for our opinions!
Have you ever considered bring back some of the original designs for a second printing. I absolutely LOVE my first soleil long sleeve shirt, but it is nearly in shreds. I have simply worn it to death! It will be a very sad day when I have to finally declare it dead and buried.
    Thanks again,
    Jenn

We are tandem riders, and my wife pretty much only wears Terry (thanks Lisa Wilke). I would love to have a mens version. I like that your sets are not identical prints on both. Other than the name, we like Tarzan & Jane best, then Blue By You. I agree with the other comments to have some less flowery options – maybe some of the sprocket or terrain looking designs.
Would love to have some of these for this summer. Be happy to be beta testers for a Santana trip to Portugal in April.

Please focus on women only! Men have a surplus of options out there. Women do not. No one needs to “dress alike,” not even twins. My husband said thumbs down to all but Desi and Lucy but I would not wear Lucy under any circumstances. Nor would I dress to match my husband unless it was for Halloween. We are whole persons, with or without the other. One does not “complete” the other.

I think my husband would buy Soleil tops for men. He loves mine. And always rides with long sleeves. But I know he will not like flowers. Definitely we both like bright colors so that we can be seen on the road. The best combination above is dream team. But we don’t need matching jerseys. We each ride our own bikes.

My husband agrees with several of the other posters: Only the Dream Team would be something he’d wear. He loves the idea of a sunshirt in this fabric, but these designs aren’t it for the most part. But I’ll add that I would by the men’s Flower Power print in a second. Much better than the women’s one you have here.

The floral designs are lovely, but I do not think men would be attracted to the prints shown. I would definitely purchase the tops for myself. I do not think it is important to wear the same type of jersey as my husband. I have my preference for colors and patterns and my husband has his own likes.

I think they’re all a lot of fun, especially when worn as part of a tandem or team ride. I see men with flower prints, pink bikes, all kinds of colors. I have several Soleil tops and they aren’t all floral. It’s nice to have options. It’s also fun to liven things up and get away from stereotypes.

I love this idea! I have several Soleil tops that are my favorites for their snazzy appearance and comfort. I’d love to get one for my husband who needs the sun protection. But, I asked him if he would wear any of the men’s choices and he flatly said no. Especially the florals. I think he might like a dark blue jersey with a chest band of the digi sky, seas the day or nivolet blue graphics you are currently offering in women’s Soleil. Or the digi sunset graphic as a chest band on a white jersey. It would be nice to have a “not too conspicuous” option for a first foray into a men’s Soleil jersey line. Thanks for the opportunity to provide feedback!

I love most of these. I have several soleil tops because I really need to be careful with the sun. I tend to think that some of these tops would go over with younger men and some would be better with older men. Younger men wear shirts with flowers and various designs from many brands like Tommy Bahama and Ted Baker Because I prefer bright colors on the road, I like Dream Team and Tarzan and Jane. I wouldn’t wear Desi and Luci or Blue By You. Colors just don’t pop,

I would like to see the patterns you have for the men’s version available for women. Although I love the feel of your clothes, and I exclusively use your bike shorts. I am not a fan of the designs on your tops. Way too much pattern. A little floral is nice, but not a whole jersey full of floral. Love the male version of the Desi and Lucy, the Tarzan and Jane, and the floral power couple. Offer those in women’s and I would buy everyone.

My husband and I do some of our riding on a tandem, and when doing so often wear matching jerseys that we have from various events or vacation spots. He would not wear one of the Soleil tops because they don’t have zip fronts and are clingy. I’m not fond of them for riding in the weather that they are intended for either, as I get too warm in long sleeves when the sun is out and it’s over 75 degrees. (Would help a little if they had raglan sleeves or mesh in the pits) We might consider a different style of matching/almost matching jerseys, but not in a floral print. Only the Dream Team design is acceptable to both of us; something with bikes, geometric patterns, or scenery/architecture would be a better choice. Thanks for asking!

I agree with much of the commentary. The Dream Team is one we would wear, possibly Desi and Lucy. All designs must use highly visible colors as when you are out cycling that is critical in our book. My husband has often said too bad they don’t make Soleil for men as the jerseys I have are multifunctional for other activities. I think you are on to something.

Think they are great. I too would make the male counterparts a little less
Flowery – pulling in more of the vines and less of the flowers. Love the material and the Sun protection. Wore them to the beach as well as on my bike. Can’t wait to buy more!

I live in the NE — we have plenty of gray days here even in summer — I never understand why people insist on wearing gray or black when riding — I wouldn’t consider it — I want be seen from a mile away which means wearing screaming orange/yellow/green. The Dream Team is the only one that even begins to come close to being seen. I love the comfort of Terry but not the colors for riding. Terry has always been for women by women…please stick with this.

It is exciting you are considering a men’s line and/or “matching/complementary” in Soleil. Frankly, there is nothing for men with this fabric. A zipper would be even better. Bright colors are always welcome. Flowers not so much. I don’t even care for flowers as a woman wearing the jerseys (FYI). Using some bike parts (chain, gears, etc.) would be good. I ride a tandem with my husband we don’t usually match, however we try to complement our colors as you are doing above. Samples are too feminine (even for myself), much less my husband. He said he would consider Dream Team, Desi and Lucy, and Blue By You, (personally, I don’t care for them). Thank you so much for all of your consideration and for asking for our thoughts. Terry has been a perfect line for my cycling needs.

My cycling guy would only wear Dream team, and Desi. He’d even prefer Desi, with a Blue background instead of Black, as he tries to wear all brights on the road. I, a 70+ woman who has cycled for decades, have too many prints, find the male versions of all the choices refreshing, and would consider trying to fit into one. I like the idea of coordinating, but different, jerseys though. The flowers, and even the color pink, is not my style. Thank you for soliciting our reactions!
